Somalia is filled with stories of people who leave their homes perfectly healthy, only to return missing an arm, a leg, or a foot. Many civilians caught in the crossfire of the civil war have lost their lives, and many of those who survive are left trying to live without their limbs.
Muammer Salih Kasim, 63, is one of these war victims. Two years ago, while walking home, he was wounded by a bomb explosion; his leg could not be saved and had to be amputated.
