Minister of Development Cevdet Yılmaz stated that his ministry would make every effort to contribute to Somalia’s development planning, emphasizing, “We will share Türkiye’s planning experience with our Somali brothers. We will continue to stand by them in the coming period as well.”
Yılmaz met with Somali Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdullahi Sheikh Ali and his delegation at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.
Describing Somalia as a valued and brotherly country, Yılmaz noted that significant bridges have been built between the two nations in recent years, particularly gaining momentum after President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Somalia.
Yılmaz acknowledged that Somalia had endured difficult times in the past due to conflict, stating, “The country paid a social and economic price, but in recent years, it has entered a rapid recovery phase. One of the best indicators of this is the presence of this delegation in our country.”
He explained that Somalia is currently in the process of preparing a national development plan and added:
“This is a sign of how far Somalia has come. Türkiye has provided very strong support to Somalia. Our public institutions, NGOs, and local administrations have offered exemplary support in development cooperation with Somalia. With Türkiye’s support, significant changes have taken place in the country. We hope that in the coming period, the Somali people will enjoy greater prosperity, and that peace, stability, and security in Somalia will be further strengthened. The Somali government is doing important work in this regard and achieving notable progress, which we hope will continue to advance.
As the Ministry of Development, we will strive to contribute to Somalia’s development planning. We will share Türkiye’s planning experience with our Somali brothers and remain by their side in the future as well.”
Following Minister Yılmaz’s remarks, the meeting continued behind closed doors.
