The Oruç Reis Research Vessel, developed with Türkiye’s domestic and national capabilities, has completed its preparations for a critical mission in Somali waters.

The deployment follows the “Memorandum of Understanding on Onshore and Offshore Blocks in Somalia” signed in March between the Turkish Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources and the Somali Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

Final checks on the vessel were conducted at Filyos Port, ahead of its departure to the Horn of Africa. The Oruç Reis will conduct seismic exploration and geological surveys as part of Türkiye’s commitment to support Somalia in exploring and utilizing its natural resources.

This mission represents a new milestone in Turkish-Somali cooperation, especially in the fields of energy diplomacy, resource development, and bilateral economic partnership. The operation will also contribute to enhancing Somalia’s energy independence and unlocking its offshore hydrocarbon potential.
