In Somalia, where the United Nations has reported that 29,000 children under the age of five have died in the past 90 days due to hunger and thirst, Turkish doctors in the Ministry of Health’s field tent are working to bring severely malnourished children back to life.
Because the children have not eaten for so long, many vomit the food they receive, and diarrhea is also common. Turkish healthcare workers are trying to restore the children’s digestive systems by slowly giving liquid nutrition using bottle caps or syringes, along with administering IV fluids and antibiotics to strengthen them.
Nearly skin and bones, 5-month-old Ahmed Abdi is being fed by Turkish doctor İbrahim Elverdi with a bottle cap.
