Turkey’s Ambassador to Mogadishu, Cemalettin Kani Torun, stated, “We want to bring experts from Turkey to Somalia to establish a new state structure and create a functioning state mechanism here.”

In an interview with Anadolu Agency, Torun said that Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit on August 19, 2011, marked a turning point for Somalia.
Following this visit, Turkey opened its embassy in Mogadishu and mobilized both government institutions and civil society organizations to support the Somali people struggling with hunger and drought.

Torun added, “In addition to aid activities over the last year, the Republic of Turkey has begun development projects including road, school, and hospital construction, as well as state rebuilding efforts. Because there is no functioning state mechanism here, we hope to do our best in this regard. We want to bring experts from Turkey to Somalia to build a new state structure and establish a working state mechanism.”
