Former Somali Foreign Minister Ismail Mahmoud Hurreh emphasized that Türkiye’s efforts to mediate and resolve the disputes between Somalia and Somaliland are highly valuable for ensuring the long-term stability of the Horn of Africa.
Speaking at a talk titled “Recent Developments in the Horn of Africa” held at the Africa House in Ankara, Hurreh addressed diplomats and Somali students studying in Türkiye, providing insights into the dynamics affecting the region’s stability.
He noted that recent developments have brought the nations of the Horn of Africa closer together and have drawn increasing attention from the international community.
Commenting on the tensions between Somalia and Somaliland, Hurreh stressed the importance of resolving the issue to promote peace and security across the region.
“Türkiye’s efforts to mediate the dispute between Somalia and Somaliland are extremely valuable for the stability of the Horn of Africa,” he said.
Hurreh underlined that a solution to this problem would contribute to the broader advancement of the African continent and called on both parties to remain committed to peaceful dialogue and constructive engagement.
