Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced that Türkiye will protect Somalia’s territorial waters for the next 10 years under the Defense and Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed between the two countries.

Speaking to the press at the Presidential Palace following the Somali Parliament’s ratification of the agreement, President Mahmud emphasized the importance of the deal, noting that it would significantly contribute to Somalia’s maritime security and national sovereignty.

“This agreement ensures the protection of our seas for a decade and reflects the deep strategic cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia,” Mahmud stated. He expressed confidence that the partnership would also pave the way for further economic and security collaboration in the future.
