The Somali Naval Task Group, consisting of TCG Gökova, TCG Gediz, and TCG Üsteğmen Arif Ekmekçi, provided an escort for the Oruç Reis Seismic Research Vessel during its mission deployment to Somali waters.
The escort operation highlights the growing defense and energy cooperation between Türkiye and Somalia. The Oruç Reis is set to begin offshore and onshore hydrocarbon exploration under a bilateral agreement aimed at enhancing Somalia’s energy infrastructure and resource development.
