The Somalia assessment meeting chaired by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has begun. At the Prime Ministry’s Working Office in Beşiktaş, Prime Minister Erdoğan met with representatives of public institutions and civil society organizations involved in aid efforts for Somalia.
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan emphasized that they must embrace all of Somalia and provide services to every part of the country, saying, “As Turkey, this is exactly what befits us. Without giving any opportunity for discrimination, God willing, we will ensure that aid reaches every corner of Somalia.”
Prime Minister Erdoğan made these remarks following an assessment meeting at the Prime Ministry’s Working Office in Beşiktaş, where he convened with representatives of public institutions and NGOs coordinating aid efforts for Somalia.
Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Erdoğan stated that they aim to take significant steps to enable the Somali people to become self-sufficient by improving infrastructure, providing food, medicine, and clothing, and enhancing education opportunities.
Emphasizing that the government has taken the necessary measures to ensure aid reaches the Somali people swiftly and completely, Erdoğan continued:
“While many countries hesitate to go to Somalia or to carry out aid activities there due to security concerns, we, as Turkey, have actively stood by Somalia. Our official and volunteer organizations are performing incredibly meaningful tasks on the ground, overcoming every challenge. With this visit, we have demonstrated to the whole world that Turkey, with both its government and aid organizations, has mobilized. We want the world’s attention and focus to be on the humanitarian tragedy taking place in Somalia. At the upcoming UN General Assembly in September, this will be the sole focus of my speech.”
