Killian Kleinschmidt, Acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Mogadishu, said, “We saw it here as the UN. We can say that the Turks brought not only aid but also hope to this country.”
Representatives from all sectors of the UN Somali delegation, including UNICEF, WHO, OCHA, WFP, and UNHCR, visited the modern Cezire Tent City operated by the Turkish Red Crescent.
The delegation, which examined the work, took photos, and took notes from time to time, received information about the activities from Turkish Red Crescent Somali delegation head Hayrettin Gurova and deputy head Alper Küçük.
After the visit, Kleinschmidt answered questions from the Anadolu Agency team. He said they came to the tent city together with all sector representatives of the UN Somali delegation.
Kleinschmidt, noting they were with representatives from different sectors at the Red Crescent camp, said they had previously heard about the excellent work of the Turkish Red Crescent and wanted to see these efforts firsthand with the technical team.
In their inspection, Kleinschmidt was impressed by how successful the Turkish Red Crescent’s work had been in such a short time. He stated, “We face challenges in providing services to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and in ensuring their safety. We can say from our perspective that we have witnessed what can be done when there is a genuine will. For over 200,000 displaced people, we see that more can still be done. We observed the success of the Turkish Red Crescent.”
Kleinschmidt emphasized the incredible progress in Somalia, the return of Somalis living abroad, and the establishment of businesses and markets, highlighting that this indicates Somalia’s potential for rapid development.
