Doha, March 26, 2013 (Anadolu Agency) — During a meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on the sidelines of the Arab League Summit in Qatar, Türkiye’s Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu was met with an unexpected surprise.

Somalia’s Ambassador to Doha, Omar Sheikh Ali Idris, greeted Minister Davutoğlu with a warm handshake, saying, “My teacher,” revealing that he had been Davutoğlu’s student at the International Islamic University in Malaysia. The two warmly embraced and shared memories, discussing what they had been doing over the years since their time at the university.

Ambassador Idris expressed his deep admiration for Davutoğlu, saying he had followed his career with pride and that his achievements as a minister were just as impressive as his time as an academic. “As a former student, I am proud of you,” he said.

“You Haven’t Aged at All, Professor”

With a smile, Ambassador Idris joked, “Professor, you haven’t aged a bit—in fact, you look even younger,” and asked Davutoğlu about the secret to staying youthful. Minister Davutoğlu responded that nothing brings him more joy than reuniting with his former students, and that their continued interest and support keep him energized.

Ambassador Idris also praised Türkiye’s efforts in Somalia, not only for its humanitarian aid but also for its active and principled foreign policy, which has earned the respect of the Somali people. He wished Davutoğlu continued success.

Before parting, Minister Davutoğlu told Ambassador Idris that he hoped to see him soon in Türkiye.
