A commemoration event was held at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu to mark the “15 July Democracy and National Unity Day.” The ceremony honored the memory of those who lost their lives during the failed coup attempt in Türkiye on July 15, 2016.
The event was attended by Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mogadishu, Mehmet Yılmaz (second from left), and Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Mahdi Mohammed Gulaid (left), along with numerous Turkish and Somali citizens.
During the ceremony, Ambassador Yılmaz emphasized the significance of defending democracy and national sovereignty, while Deputy Prime Minister Gulaid expressed solidarity with the Turkish people and praised Türkiye’s resilience in the face of threats to its democracy.
The program concluded with prayers and a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of July 15.
