The Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital, built by Turkey in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, has provided medical treatment to over 12 million people in just eight years, playing a pivotal role in rebuilding the country’s collapsed healthcare system.

Established at a time when Somalia’s health services were nearly nonexistent due to decades of civil war, terrorism, and economic collapse, the hospital has become the cornerstone of the nation’s healthcare infrastructure.

In a country of nearly 16 million people, the hospital has enabled citizens to receive advanced medical care without traveling abroad, offering treatment for serious and complex conditions that were once inaccessible.

The Turkish-supported facility also serves as a training hub for Somali medical professionals, further ensuring the sustainability and growth of local healthcare capacity.
