Open-heart surgeries can now be performed in Somalia for the first time, thanks to a new unit launched at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Training and Research Hospital in Mogadishu.
The new cardiac surgery wing, established through cooperation between the Turkish and Somali Ministries of Health, was inaugurated with an official ceremony attended by Somali Health Minister Ali Haji Adan, parliament members, and other dignitaries.
This milestone marks a significant advancement in Somalia’s healthcare capabilities, reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for complex cardiac procedures and reinforcing Türkiye’s continued commitment to Somalia’s medical infrastructure development.
