As part of the Defense and Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement signed between the governments of Somalia and Türkiye, a Turkish military vessel has arrived in the Somali capital, Mogadishu.

The welcoming ceremony for the Turkish Ministry of Defense vessel was attended by Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, several Somali ministers, and Türkiye’s Ambassador to Mogadishu, Alper Aktaş.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Mohamud expressed his gratitude to Türkiye and praised the long-standing friendship between the two countries:

“The government and people of Türkiye have consistently supported us. Türkiye is a trusted friend and brotherly nation, and this vital agreement strengthens our national unity and territorial integrity.”

President Mohamud also thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his leadership and support, noting that through this cooperation, the Somali Navy will be revitalized and reach the capacity to independently protect its own waters.

Somali Defense Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur added that:

“The agreement contains multiple components—some economic and others military. Most aspects are progressing well, and the arrival of this vessel is part of the military implementation. Additional components will also be put into effect soon.”

Ambassador Alper Aktaş highlighted that the agreement reflects the strong ties between the two brotherly nations. He reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“Somalia’s security is Türkiye’s security. We have never considered Somalia’s stability separate from our own,” Aktaş stated.
