Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, Alparslan Bayraktar, announced that a new agreement between Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) and the Somali Petroleum Authority will pave the way for onshore oil and gas exploration in Somalia.

The agreement marks a significant step in the growing energy partnership between the two countries, following earlier deals focused on offshore hydrocarbon activities.

Minister Bayraktar stated that Türkiye is committed to sharing its expertise and technological capabilities to help Somalia unlock its energy potential, contributing to the country’s economic development and energy independence.

“This new phase will allow Turkish companies to conduct exploration in Somali territory, not just in offshore blocks, and will further strengthen our strategic cooperation,” Bayraktar said.
