Türkiye has sent a shipment of medical supplies to Somalia to support the country’s fight against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), including domestically-produced intensive care ventilators. Somalia became the first foreign country to receive Türkiye’s locally-manufactured ventilators.
The aid was sent upon the instructions of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and was prepared through the joint efforts of the Ministries of National Defense, Health, and Industry and Technology. The equipment was loaded onto an A400M military transport aircraft at Etimesgut Air Base in Ankara.
The shipment included essential medical supplies such as masks, gloves, protective suits, and most notably, Türkiye-made mechanical ventilators, a symbol of Türkiye’s technological advancement and humanitarian commitment during the pandemic.
This move highlights the strong bilateral relations between Türkiye and Somalia and underscores Türkiye’s continued support for African nations during global health crises.
