Somalia — A groundbreaking initiative launched in 2012 by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in collaboration with the Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) has helped rejuvenate agriculture in Somalia through an agricultural school project that has since evolved into a full-fledged university.
The Agriculture School Project, located in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu, has so far graduated over 2,000 students, significantly contributing to the country’s agricultural revival. Many of the school’s alumni, now actively engaged in farming, have played a pivotal role in the establishment of new greenhouses and farming facilities, inspired by the education and practices introduced at the institution.
This Türkiye-backed initiative has not only provided vocational and theoretical training but has also empowered local communities to pursue sustainable agriculture, ensuring food security and economic growth in the region. The success of the program reflects the strengthening partnership between Türkiye and Somalia in the fields of development, education, and food production.
